Learn Cuban modern dance at its source in Havana. Meet the artists, hear the music, and discover Cuba in a way that few travelers ever experience.

Sessions will be taught in Havana with Tomás Guilarte and his studio team of dancers and musicians. Guilarte is a legendary principal dancer, choreographer, and instructor with Danza Contemporanea de Cuba. During the afternoons and evenings experience an exciting itinerary full of the dynamic dance, music, food, culture, and people of Cuba.

This travel is ALL-INCLUSIVE- All meals, lodging, ground transportation, and activities are all included in one price!

PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES

  • Day 1 
    • Depart Washington (DCA) at 10 AM
    • Change planes in Miami. Connect with travelers coming from other cities
    • Arrive in Havana at 5:05 PM
    • Pass through customs, immigration, then travel to our classic Cuban lodging (see pics) in Havana
    • Rooftop meal at sunset overlooking the harbor of Havana Bay
     
  • Day 2 
    • Breakfast at our lodging 
    • 10-minute ride to dance studio in nearby Centro Havana. 
    • Cuban modern dance workshop (8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. with breaks)
      with Tomás Guilarte and his team of dancers and musicians
    • Back to colonial casa to refresh and lunch 
    • Afternoon tour of historic Old Havana with expert Cuban guide
    • Dinner and music at an lively paladar in Plaza Vieja
     
  • Day 3 
    • Breakfast at our lodging 
    • Cuban modern dance workshop (8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. with breaks)
    • Lunch at beaches east of Havana (30-min drive). Enjoy Cuban sun and surf • Return to Havana to visit largest artisan market in Cuba. Formerly a warehouse, the vast space has original paintings, Cuban clothing, and more
    • Dinner in Centro Havana and one of Cuba’s best restaurants
     
  • Day 4 
    • Breakfast at our lodging 
    • Cuban modern dance workshop (8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. with breaks)
    • Lunch then explore neighborhood of Vedado 
    • Sunset seaside drive through Havana in classic American convertibles
    • Dinner at a former mansion that is now a fine restaurant 
    Free time options include: Mojitos, music, and seaside vistas at lush gardens at Hotel Nacional, Latin jazz at El Jazz Cafe, walk with the crashing waves along Havana’s famous El Malecón
     
  • Day 5 
    • Breakfast at our lodging
    • 10-minute van ride to and fro Tomás’ dance studio in Old Havana.  
    • Cuban modern dance workshop (8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. with breaks)
    • Lunch at our lodging, then off to an open rehearsal of Danza Contemporanea de Cuba
    • Dinner early then off to see a performance by major Cuban dance company such as Malpaso, Danza Abierta, Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, or the National Cuban Ballet. 
    Free time options include: Visit National Museum of Fine Arts, stroll Havana’s pedestrian quarter, visit more galleries and visit young entrepreneurs in the neighborhood of Arte Corte
     
  • Day 6 
    • Breakfast at our lodging 
    • Cuban modern dance workshop (8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. with breaks)
    • Lunch and lounge poolside at Havana Libre Hotel
    • Visit home studio of master Cuban visual artist and printmaker with opportunity to purchase works directly from the artist.
    • Farewell Fiesta with an evening of contemporary Cuban cuisine, art, and modern dance at La Fábrica del Arte.
    Free time options include: Book a professional massage, skip the pool and head back to the beach, or visit a legendary salsa music recording studio.
  • Day 7 
    • Sleep in! Breakfast at our lodging 
    • Visit community art project that connects Cuban youth to creativity
    • Lunch with live music and dance (of course!)
    • Check out of lodging and depart for Havana Airport
    • Check in and depart on flight at 3:45 PM
    • Change planes in Miami
    • Arrive in Washington DC at 9:45 PM

 


ABOUT THE ITINERARY
The program of activities is designed to prioritize the study of modern dance while allowing participants time to relax and enjoy in Havana, Cuba. Each day offers curated activities with plenty of free time to rest or explore on your own. Not listed are performances by Cuban dance companies that will be incorporated into the itinerary as performing arts schedules are announced.
